» Smorg - Should they be sung by a mezzo or a counter-tenor?

What's your preferences? Should the roles formerly sung by a castrato (like Farnace in 'Mitridate', Idamante in 'Idomeneo', Orfeo in 'Orfeo ed Euridice', Giulio Cesare in 'Giulio Cesare in Egitto', etc) be sung by a mezzo soprano or by a counter tenor? And how about Orlofsky in Johannes Strauss' 'Die Fledermaus'?

Does your preference apply across the board or does it depend on which role and/or who the other cast members are?
