Which is your favorite Donizetti opera and why. Perhaps I haven't listed your favorite, make your case for it!» Smorg - What is your favorite Donizetti?

Hiya Bryce,
I'm goin' with Lucia di Lammermoor indeed! Has everything in it.
I saw/heard Roberto Devereaux for the first time 2 weeks ago when a friend sent a DVD from Munich (with Gruberova) and like it a lot, too (divine singing...weird staging). The only Donizetti opera I've heard live is Dom Sebastien, tho. Lots of great moments, but frays at the end a bit... wish Donizetti could have remained sane long enough to improve on it a bit.
Expecting an amateur DVD of Poliuto in the mail, too. Looking forward to checking that out very much. Cheers!

I look forward to hearing your opinion on Poliuto. I have been lucky enough to be in productions of Lucia and L'elisir (playing Nemorino in 2 different Elixir productions) I am a bit of a sucker for comedy, so I really do enjoy Elixir and Pasquale personally.
