» Smorg - Who is the Greatest Soprano of all-time?

I'm a Callas fan, too! Didn't pick her since the voice could get really ugly at times... But she's a personal favorite.

Ya' know, I hadn't listen to Dame Joan for so long I forgot about her diction problem thingy. Here the fee cable TV program 'Classic Arts Showcase' is running a clip of her doing 'Vissi d'arte' from Tosca this week... I first saw it on Saturday night and didn't realize that she was actually singing it in Italian until the 3rd phrase or so. Whatever it was she thought she was singing, it didn't sound anything close to 'vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore'!
