» Smorg - Has anyone gone to see Met opera at the cinema yet?
Has anyone been to see these broadcast? What do ya' think?
I've been watching opera DVDs a lot more than movie DVDs at home these days. Wonder if opera at the theaters would catch on (would be thrilled to death if it does). After all, the Met ones are live recordings...

I actually hope that opera in the movie theater catches on. I think it brings opera, as an entertainment, to more people, especially in this climate of multi-media.

I would like to invite you to read two articles about next season, especially one about the Met increasing their movie telecasts from 6 to 8 next season, as well as a blog about a couple of my thoughts on the subject!

Way cool! Thanks, Bryce.
I know of at least one new opera fan who didn't have any interest in the genre at all before she saw the HD broadcast of I Puritani. Now she's an opera fanatic and buying up records as if there's no tomorrow. Bravo to the Met!! ;o)

I would have imagined that "opera" would pick up many fans with the broadcast of Barbiere these last couple of weeks as well.

Here! Here! I'm dreaming of the day when we'll have opera regularly broadcast on TV once or twice a week like the Europeans have. My German friends are getting to see the opera on tv there way before they get released as commercial DVDs! I'm jealous! Did catch Eugene Onegin on KPBS last weekend, tho. :o) Kudos to KPBS!

Recently switching cable companies, I just picked up the ovation channel....on which in the last couple of weeks I have seen Lulu, Abduction, Hansel and Gretel, and a couple of other operas, names of which escape me at this early hour of the morning (7:30 am)
