Um... the best one I've got on records has Regina Resnik as Carmen and Jose van Dam as Don Jose. I haven't heard the fabled Rise Steven as the Gypsy, tho.

The best live Carmen I've heard is Marina Domashenko. Very sorry I missed Anne-Sofie von Otter's Carmen in Santa Fe last year.

Looking forward to flying all the way to Zurich next year for Vesselina Kasarova's debut in the role. I've heard her take on 'Habanera' a few times... very ..er...teasingly hot.
