Impossible! lol It varies by mood really I couldn't even if you breakdown it's like picking out a favorite kid : )each one has something special to it or a particular aria, duet or the overture, intermezzo that I get attached to love.I couldn't really narrow it down in catagories ..well perhaps bel canto, and verismo, grand opera.. I suppose.
I like great dramas over buffa etc

What about you Sir? What do you like best?

Funny, but I am the opposite (perhaps because these operas are ones that have roles I can sing in them) I actually love opera buffa.

Let us not get into a discussion about ALW, this is the opera page, not the musical theater page!

What an interesting list...with many of these operas one step off the "same 15 operas performed all of the time!"

Yup. I guess the fact that many are so hard to stage or cast that they aren't performed much makes them a bit more endearing to me. And the few recordings of the really rare ones are really good... like the Paris DVD of 'Les Troyens' (won't hold my breath waiting for the San Diego Opera to ever stage that!).

Did you see that Indiana University now has the Troyens score avail to look at online.

Here is an article that I just wrote about it (with a link to the site)
